An Open Letter to Kevin's Sisters

Dear Nicole and Heather,

Seriously, are you two trying to give me more gray hair? I really don't need a lot of help in that department. Although Kevin LOVED his Christmas gift from his sister's, I think it will be the death of me (or should I say his Ipad?)! I've tried for a day and a half now to get the apps he choose onto his IPAD. First problem I had? The print is just so small on how to follow the directions. Problem number two, the code just wouldn't get it self accepted! Yes, I know, it was probably me putting the wrong code in, but the printing on that wasn't much bigger! Problem number three, getting it to sync. Now I have the gift card loaded to his account and three, yes, three new apps downloaded,if only I could get them onto his IPAD!!

My request to you, Nicole and Heather, next time you get him an Itunes gift card . . .

make sure he is at your house or you are here!!

Right now I'm looking for the book I bought about a year ago to help me with such problems. If only I could remember where I put it . . .

Well, at least it felt like it could be, for a minute any way! The Venetian has a wonderful new winter display up and we decided to see what it was all about.

The tree outside was really pretty. It was probably between 150 to 200 feet tall.

A Night With Sha Na Na

Last night I headed off with some of the funnest people I know to enjoy a night of the 50's. We started the evening at Steak N Shake, and had some of the best hamburgers and shakes we've ever had!

Then it was off to see the show, Sha Na Na.

Great friends enjoyed drinks and music together. They all could really shake their booty too, but after the show started I wasn't allowed to take photo's.

After the show they all got pictures and autographs from the guys in the group.

Thank you David and Sara for thinking of us all. It's always fun to hit the showroom with you two!!

Buddy Walk

What better way to start Down syndrome awareness month, than with the buddy walk. There was some cloud cover that helped to keep the temperature below 100 degrees! It was still hot and these guys did a great job for their team, The Cool 21's!

Stupid Drivers Rated PG

Stupid drivers should not be allowed on the road! The stupidest of all drivers got me today *sigh*. I was giving John, a friend of ours, a ride home today as Cal is working on his van. I was going to take the 215 because it's a straighter shot and not a lot of stops. Some how I let John convince me to go on down Centennial. I must admit part of the reason I agreed to go that route was to prove to him why it isn't the better choice. I think I proved my point!!

Any way I was heading west towards Lone Mountain with this ridiculous driver in front of me, she kept slowing way down then would get back up to speed and then do it all over again. Finally she put on her right blinker, so as she pulled her car the right I pulled toward the left, should be good right??? WRONG!! stupid beotch!!! Decided to pull a U turn! Meaning not to the right but sharp turn left, right into ME.

Collision! I refuse to call it an accident, the only accident I see here is that some one let her get a license. So I get out of the car, guess who comes screaming towards me??? Yes, idiot driver!! She's throwing her arms in the air (she's got an arm cast) shaking her cast at me and says something really stupid . . . my husband is a cop and you don't get away with hitting a cops family! My thought "well my husband is a mechanic so there"!

So long story short who do you think got the ticket??

What the hell!!!

Apparently you are allowed to make a U turn any where in Clark County unless there is a no U turn sign. Since my van ended up (because her van pushed it) in the turn lanes the collision is MY fault!!

Yup, wish someone in my family was an officer of the law . . .

Needless to say I will be fighting this one.

So after they were done writing up the report and I had dropped John off, I decide I needed an ice tea. I pull into McDonald's and what does the silly girl say too me???

While at California Adventure, the Riedesel's took their two and Peyton to the Wilderness Area, were the kids could all kinds of running around and climbing. The Bender's had taken the older ones on other rides and we were to meet up for the Color of the World's show. As Kevin, Sara and I were rounding a corner we ran into this group coming out. Here they are waiting to be sworn in.

Kevin Had A Birthday

That was rather bittersweet, for me. This was the year that he turned 21, (on July 4) a day that my mother had looked forward to for many years! Mom has been gone from this earth for nearly five years. She so wanted to show him all the ropes, and see his thrill the first time he was able to pull that arm down, or push a button whatever it may be. I was not happy that she was not here to get her wish, so I was happy to have Nicole in town to send along with Calvin so I didn't have to go (she got to take the pictures for me, as I felt I would look rather silly sitting at a machine with tears running down my face) plus I got alone time with the grandkids! From the picture's I think his grandma would have gotten a kick out of his first gambling experience. Kevin has been gambling a few times since then, today we went again. I decided that it was time for him to learn video poker as that was one of grandma's favorite's. I'm not a very good teacher, if I understand something, I just figure every one else does also. I kept saying things like" what two do you want to keep," meaning the pair, Kevin thinking the "2". Then I figured it out and saying "the one's that are the same", well, that worked until he got four hearts and I was saying no keep the hearts. Poor kid was like the same what? Make up your mind the shapes or the numbers? He was down to his last dollar, put his hand up and said, "I do it myself, o hey?" I figured OK do it yourself. He did it and got it right, by George (pun intended) I think he's got it!
I must say that after five years I still miss and think about my mom every. single. day. Usually with a smile as the memories are great but, today as I write this, it is with tears, because as much as she wanted to be here for this milestone of my boy's, I want her to be here also. To my children who I've always taught life isn't always fair, here is a prime example.
Now to those of you who still can, GO HUG your MOM!

Well, Miss Grace E. you're two!! Leaving the baby years behind and becoming a toddler. I loved spending a solid (but short) week with you this summer and showing you Las Vegas for the first time (just don't forget to come back soon, there is still lot's to be seen)! We went over to Uncle Kevin's girlfriends house to go swimming and you loved it! We couldn't turn our backs on you or you'd be diving in.

Your grandpa fixed you dippy eggs for the very first time, you loved them!

You loved the dogs, and the dog loved you.

You loved your snuggle time with grandpa.

When we go to Disneyland you had so much fun with all your cousins! It was a lot of fun for me to watch all my grandchildren interact with each other and have so much fun.

You enjoyed hanging with Miss Sara.

And on your daddy's shoulder's.

The first ride you and mommy went on together. I had the pleasure of taking you on your first Disney ride which was the garbage dump spin around thing in Bugs Land. It was fun for me to see you refuse to go with your mom, because you wanted to stay with me and ide, ide, ide!

You also got to enjoy a couple of meals with the character's (because you were under three your were free). I must say for the most part you wanted nothing to do with them! The Fairy Godmother was OK I think because she wasn't really a character.

We went to the Flamingo on Friday. There was suppose to be a free magic show, of course all those seats were taken! We got tickets for next Wednesday, so yes we are going back. We walked around their flamingo habitat and looked at the birds, turtles, fish and waterfalls.After we returned back to their house we went for a swim (don't tell Joe, he thought it would be too much for me). Josh on the float we got him.

Fun Summer Days

For the last few days, we have been having fun with Damond, James and Joshua. We've been to the Belliago, to look at their beautiful gardens.

I loved this! It's a copy of a painting, but this one is done of flowers and twigs.

We went to Caesars to see the Atlantis show and the aquarium's. The guys took a liking to this sting ray.

Kevin loved the fire in the show.

Today we went to Lone Mountain Park. They all loved it. This park has an area that is geared more towards the older group.

Don't know yet what the rest of the week will bring, but we are going to enjoy it!

Eeyore, was the last character around and in a hurry to get out so this was the best I got of him :(

Still at Breakfast

Don't know what happend with the pictures, but this is going to have to do as it took forever to download. I think the monkey guy is from Jungle Book and I don't remember what the penguin is from, but the kids knew! The penguin played peek-a-boo with Grace, trying to keep her from crying.

Sara loving on the ape. Look at our table, not even any food gotten yet! I was great, we got there as they were opening and the characters were just coming out one after another, we just got out the camera's and started shooting.

Poor Grace, surrounded by people she thinks love her and will keep her safe and they just keep letting all these strange creature's sit or stand by her. I'm hoping we haven't tramatized her for life, and we do love you Grace E..

Peyton warmed up to the character's as you can see, Some how these two always seem to end up together. Their mother's usually cringe at the thought of them together, I, however, love it! They truely enjoy each other and although they usually end up in trouble they had a great time!!!! Little lovin' from a mouse!

Another Day in the Park

The second day found us having breakfast with the character's. This time the boys joined us, we all had a great time. See all the autograph books? We tried our best to always have them lined up so the characters could sign them, and hopefully we wouldn't forget someones. The character's were great, taking the time to play around with everyone.

Peyt's first reaction to the character's, running crying and hide his face in the chair. He warmed up to them soon enough and enjoyed himself.

Still Day One

Afternoon had use meeting and eating with some pretty special ladies! This was rather pricey (20$ more than I had been told) but it was well worth it, just look at the smiles on every ones faces! It started off with getting to meet Ariel. After pictures and autographs we were seated and ordered our meal while the other princess's came around an met with each table.

Grace did NOT like these people, who kept interrupting her meal! Look at the way Isa is looking at her. We took Grace as she was under three and got to eat for free and we all know that the Bender kids like their food! The boys went for breakfast with us the next day. Those pictures should be coming up in a post soon. Isa loved chatting with the princess's while they signed her autograph book. They were so great and you get to spend more time with them than if you meet them in the park.

Look quick, she's not crying!

Grace just wanted to eat her food. Really I couldn't blame her, first they brought the appetizer plates around. They were in a three tier arrangement, on the bottom a big salad, the next plate had veggies, cheese and meat, the top had jello fingers, and fruit. Since we were such a large group we got two for our table, more that enough for every one. Then we ordered off the menu for our main meal, several choices of seafood, pasta and beef. Then the dessert plate, what can I say about that! You'll just have to go over to Kevin's blog to see a picture. Again we got two of those, good thing we were staying in the park and the room had a fridge, yes I did ask for a box!

Disneyland Day One or California Adventure

Day one started with us getting into California Adventure an hour early because we stay at the California Grand Hotel. This also enabled us to get fast passes for the first showing of their new night time show. We were also able to get on the new Little Mermaid ride, which we rode several times as it was Isa's favorite (everyone else enjoyed it also). After we had gotten our passes and gone on the ride, the bigger people of the group went on Soaring while I took the two little ones and headed over to Bug's Land. As we were walking I noticed Sully so made a quick detour to get photo's with him. Kai refused and Grace would only do it with me *sigh*

Once in Bug's Land we headed over to some "garbage" and climbed on. Soon we were heading up and going around in circles, oh joy! Kai loved it as did Miss Grace.

Next onto the lady bug that is very similar to the tea cups again, joy! As you can see Kai loved that! Miss Grace did too even though it may not look like it. She startled at first, then put her hands exactly as they are and left them that way for the whole ride. She was laughing most of the ride! Then we got a phone call from some of the group and guess what?? They couldn't find Bug's Land. So off we went to meet up with them and lucky us Sully was still up there! Sara and Kevin jumped in for a picture and Grace wanted to get up there again, but only if Uncle Kevin would hold her.

At this time Kevin and Sara wanted to go on Tower of Terror with Mark so off they went while Nicole and I took the little's back to Bug's Land. Nicole took them on the "garbage" ride again.

Then over to the bumper car's. Grace wasn't tall enough for this one so Nicole took her two, one at a time while I waited with the other. This is what is so nice about a big group, some go here and some go there and most everyone stays happy!

Mark and the big one's caught up with us again and Nicole and I sent them on the lady bug teacups with the littles. Kevin is really having a great time.

Next it was off to the caterpillar roller coaster, Sara needed a little rest while waiting in line, I guess that is what Kevin was there for :)

I love these two together! You get a little idea here of how they work together. See them both getting the safety belt taken care of? There's my Isa and her mama in the back seat.

Little Mermaid ride.

I really enjoyed this morning! Grace was with me and not the rest of her family, when mama came back to get her, she informed her NO, grab my hand and said ride, ride!! It was a great morning, fantastic memories were made and I really can't wait to do it all again!

Fun at Lone Mt. Park

June and July have found me spending a lot of time

at our local parks. With grandkids in town and lot's of wonderful weather we hit several of them! Lone Mt Park didn't have a splash park, but did have several playgrounds to choose from while we waited for Uncle Kevin to be done working with the horse's.

What I really liked about this park was the playground that seemed to be more for teenagers and adults. It had a structure that was like being in a log rolling competion, one that was like a bike for hands and feet, it was very interesting and the kids kinda liked this structure which was really the only one they could do. Peyton, who usually tires before everyone else and doesn't like to try a lot of new things, loved this one and really did well at it.

Today Is the Day

Kevin has been holding onto this bottle since July 5, when his friend David gave it to him as a birthday gift! He's wanted it in the morning, right before bed and whenever he thought about it. Finally today was the day that him and his dad sat down and enjoyed a beer together. I guess I should say Calvin enjoyed (and still is) and Kevin guzzled! When asked what he'd prefer to drink a beer or a coke, Kevin replied "A beer". Guess we are going to have to keep our eye on him now! Here are pictures from beginning to end, first his dad showed him how to properly poor the beer. Kevin took this job very seriously. Next up was a picture with the glass (which David also gave him), the toast, then the satisfying look of a young man who had just had a beer with his dad.

Bucket List

I thought it only appropriate that I start a bucket list. As of today these are all the thing I want to do, each birthday I will re-visit. I might add or take off or even mark as, oh boy, I did it!

1~ see the east coast

2~ live long enough to see a cure for cancer

3~stick with the workouts

4~learn sign language

5~cruise to alaska

6~learn to enjoy the races . . . if you can't beat 'em join 'em.

7~go to Disneyland with the grandkids

8~become a minimlist

9~become friends with all electronics

10~at least be in the audience of The Price is Right - maybe hear my name called

11- take a photography class

12~have as much made in America items as possible, buy American and America works!!

13~get all photo's into scrapbooks and up to date

14~take a nice long cruise

15~volunteer more of my time to a good cause.

Flashback Friday

Trevor really is a smart kid, really he is. Sometimes the things he chooses to do, however, really makes me wonder! Like giving a cat a bath, really? Especially the black cat! The black cat has been known too get a little mean, really it has.

The cat couldn't get out of the tub, so every time it would get a little snarly Trevor would just get out of the way until he could get a little more scrubbing in.

For some strange reason, Trevor decided to put the cat in the shower for the rinse off.

Cat has had enough! There will be no more at home bath's for the cat. We all survived this one without a scratch (amazing I know)! Not one of Trevor's shining moments!

Afternoon Swim

It seems when one visits Vegas, a lot of time is spent in the water. Today after naps we went to the Beldy's pool. The kids (and adults) had a great time and would like to thank Cindy for putting up with all the extra people in her water!!

Another Busy Morning

Today started off with a trip to a water park. Casey wanted a picture of him in "jail", I guess he wants to send it to Uncle Trevor!

Well, my darling granddaughter, I've been trying all day to get a happy birthday blog up for you and blogger is having none of it! There will be no pictures, however I wanted to make sure and say happy birthday here!

I will say how unbelievable it is to me that you are already 5! Wow, 5, five, FIVE! You are just getting so big. I so wish we could spend more time with you. I'm very grateful to your mommies dedication to blogging we we can "see" you and your brother as you grow.

Have a great day! I can hardly wait for our Disney trip! I love doing Disney with you and this time it will be with all your cousins too!!

Decorating

I've probably mentioned before, how my mother and I use to compete (friendly) over who had the most decorations for each holiday. It's been awhile since I've put up decorations for most holidays, as I have lost my friendly competition. As silly as it may sound it was fun, she would usually call and say something like " I've just bought a new purdy, how many do you have"? She knew that the new one she just got meant she had one more than I did, I probably ran right out and bought two more just to be ahead again! My favorite was going in the day after while she was at work and buying some more at 50% off, I'd wait until she got home from work and inform her of my new purdies. Of course by the time she got there the next morning everything that was any good was taken. This year I decided to either put the Easter ones out or get rid of them, since I couldn't bear to part with them this is what I had Kevin do this morning.

I love the way he needs to examine each ornament before it goes on the twig.

Still missing my mom, wishing she was here to tell me how far ahead of me she was this year . . .

Learning to Garden

Last Sunday we have the opportunity to do some volunteer work with Angel Faces. As I understand it, this organization helps you set up and garden and then you donate 10% of what you harvest. Rhonda was there to show us how to pull the weeds. You may be thinking doesn't every one know how to do this? There is a trick to it in the dessert if you don't want to break off the root and sprout several more weeds! Here is Rhonda, showing how to twirl it in a circle before pulling on it. The pictures below show the group watching her, then Sara, with her first weed and Kevin pulling up his first weed.

Next we went and got the seedlings that were to be planted an brought them to the gardens they were to grow in.

Then we picked our tools and stools.

We all gathered to listen to how Rhonda wanted them planted. First the holes were dug, then we checked to make sure that the hole was big enough for the coconut container to fit in and be covered gently with dirt. Rhonda took the time to make sure it was understood by everyone, she assisted when needed and had so much patience with all.

Todd did the watering, but even this had to be taught for the dessert! See how high he is holding the water above the dirt? He needed to bring the head of the hose much lower so that the water wouldn't be absorb into the air or blown to the wrong places by the wind.

More planting going on, we were taught to handle the plants gently like you would a baby. This brought back memories of when all the nephews and nieces were little for Uncle Kevin.

OOPS! Rhonda had to remind everyone about cleaning up after they are finished working with their tools.

Next we learned about composting, first you take the leaves out of the bags and pour them into the built up garden, then you level them out with a rake. Then you take the wagon and pick up the containers of dirt to be poured on top of the leaves.

Well, unless you're Andy who thought they'd make a good bean bag chair!

Sara didn't like it when her man got dirty!

Rhonda also spent some time teaching Kevin and Todd about working together. I took a couple of tries for them to get together on three to lift. They finally did it and all was good. She also spent time to show them the proper way to lift so they wouldn't hurt their backs.

In June of 2009, we made a cross country trek to Walt Disney World. This was an extra special trip as we were celebrating Kevin's graduation and also had Michael Will with us. Nicole, Isa and Kai joined us in Florida. After time in WDW we headed north to Canada to visit with the Rutter side of the family. Once we got to Sarina, ON, Mark joined us. One morning while he was giving Nicole some extra time with Kai to get ready he took Isa on a walk around the hotel grounds. She was so happy to show us what she had found when they returned. Can you tell what it is?

Yup, it's a lucky four leaf clover.

Of course Isa is a very lucky little girl, she has me for a meemaw!

Priceless Artwork

Well, I've finally have some artwork and it's priceless, so don't even ask if you can purchase it from me! My grandkids gave me these for Christmas, and I've found a spot for them that I like, so up they went. They are just held there with a push tack (thanks Lisette for that idea) and soon will be put up more securely. Now why did I leave that big blank spot in the middle you may be wondering?? Well, I'm going to get a picture while we are in Disneyland of the whole group (maybe with the mouse himself) and it will go there. Perfect, huh?This is the view I get every time I come down the stairs. I no longer believe in taking time to stop and smell the roses, however I do believe in taking the time to stop and enjoy the paintings on my wall! Priceless, i'm telling you, absolutley priceless!

A Day with My Favorite Cowboy

Today was a day I spent with some out of town friends, Eileen and Dawn. I also got to see my favorite cowboy, as they wanted to head on down to The Fremont Experience. He was still on the corner waiting for me and hasn't changed a bit since we last met up.

When we left the Experience we took a little drive to see how all the old neon signs are coming along. I also wanted to see how the Neon Bone yard was coming. As you can see they are coming back to life and looking good, at least in my opinoin.

I love this this red high healed shoe, I don't know what it was a part of but will find out one day, trust me on that!

Valentine Dance

Last Saturday night Kevin got to take his best girl to the Valentin dance. They looked awesome and had a great time. For your information Nicole we left, they had dinner so Cindy and I went for dinner!! We made it back for the last 15 minutes and that's when I shot the picture's and video.

It's February 14, so happy Valentine's day everyone! It still seems so strange to me to say that without it following a happy birthday mom! But time does march on and you become accustomed to a new way of doing things. This is post is about nothing inpaticular just pictures that I came across that were nice memories, so I'm sharing. This first one is funny if you knew my mother as she very much so disliked shower games. I remember this shower was held at her house so she figured when it was game time she would just busy herself with something that had been "forgotten". She must have forgotten that Kymmie K was coming and Kymmie had other plans for her grandmother that day, she was going to play the game and blindfolded at that! I'm wonder now if she was ever forgiven for that . . .
This was the night of my graduation and dad's mom and brother, Mark along with his girlfriend. Liz, had come for the big event.

I believe this was Kym's second birthday. Mom always had to be right there seeing every one's new "pretties", and helping to try them out.
Every time we went to visit mom while we lived in Kent, the last thing mom would always say to me was make sure you bring the kids swim suits, they want to go in the hot tub.
This is another one of Kym's birthday's. I like this picture because Mikey has that long haired look going on :)

Henry was one of the costumes Yeager's used a special events in the 70's, I believe it's Mike Copeland in the suit,And it's Kelly in the Snoopy Red Barron costume. I wished I had found pictures from when we would all get together and decorate the Yeager's float for the Ski to Sea parade, but I didn't so maybe next year.Here is one of us outside the San Diego Zoo when Mike was Stationed there during his stint in the Navy. Remember in one of my previous post how I said we went to other places in CA just never Disneyland?

First Great~Grandchild

I love this picture of mom with Cole. Cole was mom and dad's first great~grandchild, born to Danny Welch and Tracy. She truly enjoyed her role of a grandmother and enjoyed all of her grandchildren . . . great or other wise ;)Of course had to get some pictures of Cole with both of the greats, you've been seeing some of dad in these post's even though it is not his birthday month. I figured after all they were married for 60 years he's bound to be in a few, and he was the one who traveled around checking on them all the time as he was the retired one. Mom did retire a couple of times but Frank could always convince her to go back to Yeager's.

Well, since for the first couple of weeks in February I said I was going to post in memory of your great-grandma Alice, she is going to be included in your birthday post. I have so many wonderful memories of our first grandchild coming into this wonderful world of ours! Among them are of course Uncle Kevin's and mine first visit to meet you.
We stayed at your house so mama could get a little extra sleep at night. Uncle Kevin thought you were the best thing ever!! How he loved helping bathe and dress you, give you a bottle and take you for walks, he did not however enjoy your dirty diapers!

Mom and the Lotto

Oh, how mom loved the lottery. She liked the ones were you picked the numbers, but she loved to play the scratch tickets! It soon became a Christmas eve tradition, strange I know, but the kids had all out grown opening up pj's on Christmas eve so we had to have something to replace it, and mom chose scratch tickets. Here is Kym having a laugh about it and making a necklace out of it.

Another Christmas eve, look at her and Mark go.Mom loved to gamble. I remember her in Reno, she would stick some coins in a machine and then hop to another machine usually walking away with a cup full of coins. One time in Reno I remember her walking over to me with three cups full of quarters saying come on let's go, I think I broke the machine. I asked her what she was talking about, she said this all came out and then it stopped working. I asked her to show me the machine, turned out she had hit a big one and didn't realize that after 2000 coins an attendant had to finish the pay out. Once we moved to Las Vegas she loved making trips here. She'd be up bright and early wondering which casino we should start at that day. I truly miss those visits and all the playing we would do. Needless to say I think I will find one of her favorite machines on the 14th and put a few dollars in for the memories.

Ma and Pa go to Hawaii

Mom and Dad's friends, the Copelands, had moved to Hawaii a couple of years earlier so mom decided it was time for them to go visit. This is the photo Dolores got as they were stepping of the airplane.
Here they are on one of the beaches, although I don't know the name of the beach or which island they were on. They had a good time and that is all that really matters.

Siblings

Family was always very important to mom. Then again I think it is to most people. Mom loved her siblings. She was always so exited every time one of them came to visit or she was going to see them (although the trip to them always made her anxious). The Family Surprise

Not sure why, but mom didn't like any new life changes or surprises. It always took her awhile to adjust to any change, but she always did. And never ever surprise her! That's a whole different post! Any way when she was pregnant with me, dad and mom decided not to tell any family back home (IL), they would wait until after the baby was here. Grandma Welch, Helen Rose, would come out most summer and stay most of the summer, that would be when they made the big announcement.

The day of her arrival dad and Mike took off to the train station to pick her up while mom stayed home with me. Dad said once they had her picked up and in the car it was all Mike could do to not tell her. He kept saying, we've got a surprise for you at home Zam, we've got a surprise for you (he always called her Zam). Once they arrived home they sent her into her bedroom and I was laying on the bed . . . aw. I guess that would have been quite the surprise!After that they shared with the rest of the family. It was always funny to me to go through my baby book and see all these letters about what a surprise I was and the shower notes every wrote to mom after they were told!

Mom Goes to Disneyland

Like all kids, I'd always wanted to go to Disneyland. Although we took lots of vacations when I was a child they were all to visit family, mostly in IL. When we did go to CA, I would beg to go to Disney, dad always said NO! Amusement parks weren't his idea of a good time, or money well spent. We did go to San Fransisco and do all the fun stuff there and San Diego to the zoo and Sea World, just not Disneyland. Fast forward to 1977, the year i graduated high school, mom offered me a trip to Disneyland!!! I was overjoyed! My friend, Sue, along with mom, Leola and Grace all headed off for 10 days in southern CA and we did it all! We went to Disney in fact we stayed right across the street, this was back in the day when you bought ticket's at the gate not the all day passes . . . any one remember the E ticket? I think what surprised me the most was how mom and Leola went on every ride! They figured they would never go back so had to do it all. We also went to Knott's Berry Farm, San Diego Zoo and Sea World i can't remember all the little things we did but, we made the most of our time there.

Front Porch or Back Stoop

My mother's birthday would have been this month, February 14, to be exact, in memory of her I'm going to post about her until her birthday date!

Mom was not one to like getting her picture taken. If she seen a camera she'd quickly stick out her tongue, turn around or simply run away! She would be horrified if she were here to see this post! On a few occasions she'd agree, these shots were quickly taken on the back porch AKA back stoop. I think she did this so she could quickly get up and run back into the house. Here she is with her parents, Thomas Bishop and Ethel Mae Hughes(grandma's birthday was also in Feb.), myself and Kelly. Don't we all look thrilled?

Another First for Me!

Thanks to our oldest son, Trevor, today I got to go to a prison. I must say I never thought I'd have a child in prison but I do and life does go on. So today we set out to go visit with him. This is the road the prison is on, at least the mountains are pretty.This is the prison, behind all the cars.

Here is the sign that let's us visitors know where to go.

I might add that it was kind of sad that Kevin knew exactly what to do. He knew were to sit and wait to be called in, where to sign in at, how to raise his hands when being searched (another first for me), where to stand and wait for me, to wait until the door buzzed to go through, to turn right to get to the visiting area and after giving his brother a quick hug what side of the table to sit on. I almost forgot . . . he knew where the vending machines were and what Trevor wanted to snack on.

Now some of you might be wondering what a prison visit might be like, well, first off let me say it's something I hope none of you ever have to experience! You wait outside of the building until you are called, you then proceed to check in where you sign in and give permission to be searched. After you are searched you check your keys in, then are buzz through the first set of doors. Then you walk through this enclosed tunnel like thing, although it is outside and bright
it feels very dismal and grey. You are then buzzed into another small area like you'd see on TV, the doors slide open, you step in and wait for them to close then another set slide open and you walk into the hallway that takes you to the visitor area. Once in the visitor area it's not too bad the visitor's are free to move around ie go get stuff from the vending machines use the bathroom some even chase kids, the inmates however have to stay on their side of the table and cannot get up without permission. Families play cards or games, eat together, some read books to their children (sad), or just talk and catch up with each other.

I did have a nice visit with him (I know some of you are SHOCKED). Hope he is seeing why he needs to change behaviour. I know it's not something that I have any control over any more (not that I probably ever did). I just pray that one day he becomes the man I know he can be, one that would not only make his parents proud, but one that would have put a smile on his grandpa's face too!

We made out trip to WA a couple of days earlier than we had planned,so we could watch our darling grandson's in their Christmas play. I must say these are the cutest Shepard's and sheep that I have ever seen!!! I don't know what happened to Michael but, he's there too!

Having Fun at the Circus

Kevin and I had the opportunity to attend the circus with friends last week. Josh, James and Damond were kind enough to include Kevin, Anthony and I.Waiting for the show to begin.
James and Anthony are enjoying the show.

During intermission Kevin and Anthony went on down to get a closer look at the elephants, pony's and other things circus. The big ball that the motorcylce's went around in. Everyone enjoyed this part of the show.

There goes one, they ended up having three motorcycles in there at the same time. The boys very much so enjoyed this.

I love the look on Anthony's face when the human cannon was going though the air.

A great afternoon, spent with great friends.

Looks like I need to get busy blogging! I thought I'd posted our December trip to WA, wrong.

Christmas 1980.

Grandma Welch and Grandma Ola spent most of the day arguing over who got to hold the new baby. They spent alot of time sitting next to each other so they could keep snagging Nicole! Not sure what year this is, but again it's Alice and Leola Anderson.

Nicole was just three weeks old in this picture. Now Nicole, before you get upset about me handing you off to Santa that young, I want you to know that this was not just any Santa! He was one of my best friends dad, and I had known him for years. You were so good for the photo opp.!! Most kids cry ( as you'll soon see) for there first picture's with Santa, not you, you slept right through it.
Heather's first picture with Santa was a bit different!! Heather is 11 months old here and not happy one bit! Again I took her to the mall that my friends dad, Wally Dubowicz, was at to get it done. Yes, I'm one of those mother's who know matter what is going to get a Santa picture every year. Let them be traumatized, they get over it!

Travels With Kevin and Dan

WOW! What a blast from the past. I must say I have loved going through the older photo's these last couple of weeks. They have dusted off so many memories for me. One look at these and so many memories came flooding back, we had so many with Dan and his family. I can so clearly remember this day, the laughter Maureen and I shared as Kevin grabbed the map and "directed" us every where! He's very lucky that Dan was such a good friend and was happy to take his direction. We had a great time exploring Seattle, taking the time to stop and see all the cows decorated, and the statues in the square. This time was all about the boys and what they would enjoy doing. We went down to the water for some eats!! Stopped by Red Robin for a hamburger and fries. Took the trolley along some of the streets, don't think we went any where really, just let the boys enjoy their day. Look at the delight on Dan's face!

One the train ride home we had two tired but very happy young ones!
We treasure all of the memories with Dan, he was a very special young man. We will love Dan always and always think of Dan with a big smile. Dan loved his life and are thankful you let us be a part of it.

Grandma Helen "Nellie" Rose Welch

In February of 1981, I took Nicole and Flew off to IL, wanted to introduce her to her family back there (my mom was also going to be there after the toy show was over). It was a surprise, the only one's who knew were my Uncle Mark "bud" and his girlfriend, Liz Webster. Grandma was very surprised and didn't quit believe it, I even had to show her my ID! She keep saying 'taint my Trudy Rose! So once we convinced her that yes indeed it was me with the baby she was very excited. So here is Nicole getting her bottle from her great-grandma in her living room at three months of age.Here I am at about a month of age at the house on King Street with my Grandma.
It truly is kind of ironic how the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Sunday we did the MGM to see the lions, the M&M store to see the movie, then the Coke store to have a coke. Kevin is posing here at the MGM.

Annual Santa Run

Today was a local charities annual Santa run. Kevin's friend, Catherine, was running so we went to support her and of course to have a good time!Our city's mayor was there with his show girls! Kevin and the mayor are pals now ya know, Kevin did get to go up to his office and meet him last year.

Some of the sea of Santa's, it probably took five minutes for them all to get going! They did it again . . . broke the record for the most Santa's in one place.

Kevin found some cute girls to sing Christmas songs with while waiting on Catherine to come around.

My First Christmas

Here is my first Christmas! Not that I remember it of course, just the stories told from it. The doll with the pink blanket attached to it was from my grandma Welch. To this day I still have that doll. She's starting to wear thin in some places and her dress is fraying ~ I still have her and that's what matters to me.

Looky here! It's Trevor and Zach's first Christmas. This picture was taken at Yeager's Sporting Good's, were my mother, worked for many, many years and so did many other member's of the family!

How I remember this picture too. Martha had taken Zach back to Missouri for an early Christmas with her family. Little did we all know what the weather had in store for us after they left . . . fog. Now fog doesn't seem that bad, however, it closed the airport for days! They were diverting flights to Portland some had to land in other places far away, oh the stress that caused daddy Mike! We lived in Seattle area at the time so I was to pick her up from the airport, I think Mike was phoning me every half hour the day before she came home and the day of their arrival! Their plane did get to circle several times before a small patch of air cleared enough for them to land at Boeing Field, what a relief! Prays were answered that day.

More memories today! This one I only remember through pictures and dad retelling it thru the years. He always go a big kick out of the fact that I would do this for him, stand up in his hands. He felt it demonstrated the amount of trust and love I had for him, known he wouldn't let any harm come to me.

Tlhrough the years he tried to get the grandkids to do it, with know luck, also after the first two came along he injured his had in a trucking accident and had little use of it, so he was afraid he'd drop somebody.

However, Mr. Kai, he would have been so proud and happy to see the way you stood in the palm of your mama's hand! Missing you today, on your birthday and everyday!

Bags of Pooh

I'm going to try and do something different this month . . . post everyday about memories or Christmas things we are doing, yes, I know but this time I think I'll do better! The Christmas post may be past, present or something I want to do in the future. Memories may be mine and might only be a few days,weeks or even years ago (which most memories are)! They might be my memories or they could be some one elses as told to me.

This first memory is one my mother told me long ago, I remembered it as I was playing one of my face book games and one of the collectibles for the Halloween collection was a bag of pooh. It made me chuckle when I saw it as I recalled the story, especially if you knew my mother, she always seemed to take the high road and never wanted to do anything wrong! Any way when she and her siblings were growing up on the farm as Halloween drew closer her and her sisters would start planning whose porch they were going to put lighted bags of pooh on! This was the trick all the kids pulled back then. They would get paper, make them into bags, fill with cow pooh, put them on some one's porch, light them the knock on the door and run and hide. They would be in the bushes or behind a tree as the (usually)man of the house answered the door then proceeded to start stomping on the bags of pooh to put out the flames! Needless to say they had pooh all over them by the time they were done stomping. Oh, want to know the person they most often played the trick on . . . their preacher! My mom, Alice Irene Hughes Welch, her sister Wilma Hughes Lewis and her oldest sister Helen Hughes Coulter.

My Baby is Turning 30!!

WHERE DID ALL THE TIME GO?!! I can't believe it's been 30 years since we welcomed you into our family! What a glorious day that was.

All the things we did in your first year:

The first time your grandma Alice got to hold you(babies weren't allowed in the room with visitors back then). She was so excited to finally "get her hands on you". Then we flew off to IL when you were three months old to meet up with my mom, and you to be introduced to the great-grandma's.The first time you met your grandma and grandpa Rutter. We went over to the island for a few days so you had your first ferry ride also! The picture of you sleeping has all your favorite things: cabbage patch doll, your favorite outgrown nightgown (on her), your blanket, care bear sheets.
Love these shots! Remember, we didn't have digital in the 80's so we didn't always get pictures of everything like we do now. Your daddy never missed a chance to throw you onto someones bike. The only one however that I would allow you to ride was the little one in grandma's backyard!

All our travels!! Let me think, you've been to Niagara Falls three time now! Many trips to Disneyland and most recently, Disney World! What great times and now we are even adding some with our grandchildren, priceless memories!! I'm also thinking of a song by Trace Adkins . . .(wonder were you get that from)

Then they're fightin' in the backseat, and I'm playing referee. And someones got to go, the moment that we leave. And everybody's late, I swear that I can't wait till they grow up.

Then they do, and that's how it is. It's just quiet in the mornin', can't believe how much you miss. All they do and all they did. You want all the dreams they dreamed of to come true: and they do.

Well, blogger wouldn't let me get the whole post in one . . . I'm sure it's just me running out of patience!

So any way moving on, you so loved having a baby sister, you even shared your beloved blankie with her for a minute (you had to be right beside it, but you shared). You love to go on thrill rides, for a four year old that big slide was a thrill ride! In the red outfit it is your first day of kindergarten. Your first independent swim, and of course a big toothless grin!

I think the thing I remember most about your wedding day is Kevin being sick. I was just praying he wouldn't throw up on your dress or walking down the aisle. You in true Nicole form, took him and Kristine, into the back and signed songs with them until it was time to do your walk. Not many people would do that on a day that was suppose to be all about them!

Now back to some Trace:

I look over at their pictures, sittin' in the frames. I see them as babies: guess that'll never change. You pray all their lives that they'll find happiness . . .

And they DO!
